It was a soft, silver-filled adhesive that broke easily after getting a scalpel blade under the far edge of the crystal, allowing me to remove it with no visible damage under low magnification (perhaps some scratches visible at high mag depending on how hard the scalpel I used to pry it was compared to the quartz - hardened steel is around Mohs 7 which is the same as quartz, so depending on the exact alloy and hardening profile it may have been harder or softer).
